They picked us up in the boat at our hotel harbor at 7am and we had a lovely day of island hopping, hiking, snorkeling, and of course close encounters with dinosaurs on Jurassic island itself. There are so many advantages to being in a private group, you don't want to come all this way and have to deal with strangers. Another great thing about this tour is that they handle all the payments/permits/registrations of the islands you visit. Other tours do not include the fees and could be a hassle if you're left to register and pay on your own. We saw the occasional monkey cross the road as we made our way to the small coastal town, where we caught a small boat to the cave. The tide was out so we had to fill in time by visiting and swimming from a large sand island. The tide was still low when we arrived at the location of the cave. Our boat was parked 300 meters away from the pier, The walk to the pier in the shallow water, allowed us to wonder at the amount of large two-tone brown starfish scattered all around us. The cave itself has a steep wooden ladder at the entrance. They say it is best to arrive around 10 am as the sun is at the right height to fill the cave with light. We arrived later and the cave was partially filled with light. You need to climb down a rocky surface to the water which may be challenging for some. The experience was well worth the effort. Whilst we could swim in safety, and could see the water's edge in natural light, the back of the cave on our visit was black with no light. For us, this just added to the mystery of the cave. We loved the visit. There was a small admission fee and we took a guide for tips who walked us to the cave. Once inside the rocks down to the swimming area were extremely slippery. Once down at the bottom it was a wonderful place to swim. As the afternoon sun moved around, more of the cave was lit up showing the stalactites and beautiful rock formations. Tripadvisor performs checks on husband and I booked a private boat for our three-day, two-night tour of Komodo National Park and its surroundings, paying $1200 for the boat park fees were additional. Overall we felt Doddy did an excellent job of organizing our excursion, delivering exactly what he had promised. Our guide, Robert, was thoughtful and conscientious, and the crew worked hard to run the boat and deliver decent meals. We experienced some electrifying encounters with Komodo Dragons and experienced many other unforgettable moments. I should caution that for what we paid, the accommodations were hardly luxurious. When booking my tour, I just asked the price, got an answer from Doddy, and figured that was that. Now that I’ve been there, I think maybe I should have gotten more information about what a somewhat more upgraded experience would cost. Clearly there are many boat options in Labuan Bajo. In terms of operators, however, we felt that Doddy and his organization were reliable, responsible, seasoned. We had a fantastic guide, who helped us with all of our questions and also guided us during all the activities. The boat team worked tirelessly to ensure all of our needs were catered to. We were well fed with plenty of snacks throughout the day and the food was lovely. The highlight of our trip was snorkelling with Manta Rays, spotted by the captain who very kindly stopped and allowed us to jump in and snorkel with them. They picked us up in the boat at our hotel harbor at 7am and we had a lovely day of island hopping, hiking, snorkeling, and of course close encounters with dinosaurs on Jurassic island itself. There are so many advantages to being in a private group, you don't want to come all this way and have to deal with strangers. Another great thing about this tour is that they handle all the payments/permits/registrations of the islands you visit. Other tours do not include the fees and could be a hassle if you're left to register and pay on your own. Very knowledgeable, care about your trip, care about your enjoyment and safety during the trip. The itinerary- the day covers a lot of ground and you get to see and enjoy a lot of really cool experiences. Lunch- lunch was tasty and dietary requirements are catered for. Negatives The rangers in Komodo National Park were knowledgable, and we did come across a couple of dragons which was awesome. We were able to get photos with one from a safe distance where the animal was not touched or any of the visitors went anywhere near them and there was always a good distance. However, the dragon was a little chill and fell asleep- not a problem, it’s hot, it’s a dragon and can do whatever it wants! But the wardens didn’t like it and used their sticks to poke the dragon to wake up. No. No. No. no. No. No. Absolutely lost me from that point. It was absolutely unnecessary. Whilst I appreciate that this is a third party to the tour itself- it is still a part of the tour and I didn’t like the fact that I was contributing to these people who claim to care for these magnificent animals, but also care more for the tourist pictures. I get it’s a business, but I’m not down for that- especially when everyone could see that it had just walked over and had stopped here for a nap. The snorkelling was good- lots of fish and colourful coral, however there was an expectation of being a strong swimmer, and you defo got left behind if you weren’t. We were one of the first boats out of the harbor so got to experience Padar and Pink Beach without the usual crowds. We stayed for a few hours at Komodo island to see the dragons and the snorkeling was traveler found this review helpfulFirst off my biggest thing is finding guides who care about the excursion they’re showing you and THESE GUYS ARE AWESOME! They all have great personalities, very friendly and super helpful! You get picked up and dropped off from your hotel as well by a prescheduled driver so you don’t have to figure that out on your own. Our hotel was up on Eden Beach area in Labuan Bajo and they were very accommodating even was there early before our pick up time too! Our guide even took our most favorite pictures. These guys know angles for sure! Hahaha But for the tour part of it I was personally blown away by Komodo Island specifically! We saw 10 Dragons!! The guide told us we were very lucky as most people don’t get to see that many on the medium trail we did! He was also super informative about the park as well! This part of the trip made my whole year I think! Snorkeling is a MUST do! The guys provide all the equipment including life jackets if you want onethe ocean can be kind of choppy or if you don’t, you can dive all the way down to hangout with the Manta Rays and the Sea Turtles! Thank you for your review!Negatives first confusing communication as original message gave time for pick up but lay the night before got conflicting info to meet 15 mins earlier. However the actual pick up was closer to the original?? At the harbor, sorting into the different boats was a little confusing as well, but they have a system I just didn’t understand it. On Komodo Island they had us stand around for a long time as there were no dragons near and a ranger went to “chase” one in our direction. It did prove successful and we saw it in its natural habitat walking along, so I guess worth it for that. When we got back to the beach there was one lying in the sun we saw up close. The extra time waiting also put us behind. Those negatives were the difference between the 4-5 stars. Positives everyone was so polite and crew were very helpful in many ways helping all the passengers have a lovely time. Padar Island and the hike was so beautiful and a highlight of the trip. It was super hot so be prepared! Pink beach is unique but not the place for snorkeling. Just enjoy a walk along the pink sands and enjoy the shade and beauty. Seeing the manta rays was awesome and I could have stayed a lot longer but we were behind schedule. Snorkeling along the sandbar was another highlight as it was amazing!
